How to make black bean patties

- BLACK BEAN BURGERS: Process half of the black beans, 2 tsp. chili powder, cumin, garlic powder and kosher salt in food processor until blended.
- Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and stir in egg, remaining black beans and panko breadcrumbs. Shape the black bean mixture to form patties.
- Heat oil in large non-stick skillet or a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the bean burgers until heated through, 7-8 minutes, turning once.
- CILANTRO LIME SAUCE: In small bowl combine mayonnaise, cilantro, lime juice and ¼ tsp. chili powder.
- Serve burgers on buns, pita bread or English muffins with lettuce and tomato, if desired.
Swirls of Flavor Recipe Tips
- To make ahead, shape the black bean burgers into patties and refrigerate the raw patties until ready to cook. Let the patties come to room temperature before cooking.
- You can also make the cilantro sauce aioli recipe ahead and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Top your black bean patty with slices of pepper jack cheese or a good melting cheese.
Substitutions
- Substitute taco seasoning for the chili powder, cumin, kosher salt and garlic powder.
- Substitute plain Greek yogurt for the mayonnaise.
- Substitute sour cream for half of the mayonnaise.
Storage
- Store the cooked homemade black bean burgers wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or in an airtight container, in the refrigerator.
- Burgers will stay fresh in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

- ½ tsp. garlic powder
