Lemon Ginger Tea
All you will need to make your own homemade ginger tea is hot water, fresh ginger root and lemon. This simple tea recipe is fresh, delicious and oh so easy to make.
There are several health benefits of ginger.
I love sipping on a cup of lemon ginger tea for a sore throat. It is just so soothing, especially when I add a splash of honey simple syrup.
Fresh ginger, just like ginger ale soda, is also known for relieving upset stomachs too. Just a few sips and you will begin to feel better.
I love making iced tea in the summertime and iced ginger tea is one of my favorites. Simply steep the tea according to the recipe, Then chill the tea in the refrigerator and pour over ice to serve.
A trick that I do to keep iced tea from watering down is to also freeze additional tea in an ice cube tray. Then I use the iced tea ice cubes when making a glass of ginger iced tea!
This recipe makes 2 servings, but you can easily double the recipe and serve it in a pretty teapot for everyone to enjoy.
I treat myself to this homemade tea especially when the weather is chilly or rainy because every sip of ginger root tea just warms my body and nourishes my soul.

How to make homemade ginger tea
Scroll down for the full recipe instructions and ingredient amounts for homemade fresh ginger tea in the recipe card below
- In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced ginger and fresh lemon slices and cover.
- Remove from the heat and let steep for 10 minutes. Steep an additional 5-10 minutes for a stronger tea.
- Strain the ginger and lemon and discard.
- Add fresh lemon slices when serving, if desired.
Recipe Tips
- The more ginger slices you add when steeping, the stronger the ginger's spicy flavor will be.
- The longer you steep the tea the stronger the flavor will be. However, steeping the tea too long may give it a bitter flavor, so an additional 5-10 minutes should be good.
Substitutions
- Replace the lemon slices with orange slices for an orange ginger tea
Storage
- Store any leftover tea in an airtight pitcher or mason jar in the refrigerator.
- Tea will stay fresh for 2-3 days.
- As always, I find it helpful to visit the FDA website for food storage guidelines
