With just three simple ingredients, blueberries, sugar and water, you will have yourself a blueberry simple syrup in no time at all.
And actually, don't limit yourself to making this simple syrup just in the summer. You can make it all year long with frozen blueberries when you don't have fresh blueberries on hand.
Blueberries burst open to release all their juicy deliciousness as they simmer with water and sugar.
Use an immersion blender and then strain out the solids and you’re all done!
Using the immersion blender gives you a thicker simple syrup because some of the blueberry skins become incorporated into the syrup.
Doesn’t get much easier than that!
So basically you’re making a plain simple syrup with blueberries added. A classic simple syrup with a blueberry twist. I like that!
Oh, and if you want to add some citrus notes, feel free to stir in some lemon zest or a tablespoon or two of lemon juice when the syrup is cooling.

How to make an easy blueberry syrup

- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and simmer until the sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes.
- Add the blueberries and bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.
- Cook until the blueberries have burst, stirring occasionally, about 7 minutes
- Once all the blueberries have burst and the mixture is syrupy, remove from heat and cool for about 30 minutes.
- At this point I like to use an immersion blender to incorporate as many of the skins as possible.
- Strain out the solids through a fine mesh sieve and store the syrup in a glass jar or bottle in the fridge.

- Combine blueberry syrup over ice cubes with a splash of vodka and finish off with club soda. Blueberry cocktails are the best cocktails!
- Make blueberry lemonade by combining either homemade lemonade or storebought lemonade with this sweet syrup.
- Adding blueberry syrup to club soda, lemon lime soda or ginger ale is a delicious way to create an easy fruity blueberry soda!
Substitutions
- You can substitute brown sugar for the granulated sugar for a little more depth of flavor
- Frozen blueberries or fresh blueberries can be used to make this syrup recipe

Yes, you can freeze flavored simple syrups for up to about 2 months. If you freeze it in smaller portions in an ice cube tray you can use a little bit at a time without having to defrost a larger amount all at once. Hope this helps!
