I’m quite certain that I’ve mentioned this to you before but it’s definitely worth another mention. Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday! I look forward to this culinary feast all year long and a favorite part of my day is the mashed potatoes.

We all need potatoes to pour that gravy on. Our easy garlic mashed potatoes are buttery, silky, and, yes, garlic-infused. Ok, now I’m drooling over here.

Buttery Yukon gold potatoes cook together with cloves are garlic, infusing the potatoes with their flavor.

Mash the potatoes along with tangy cream cheese and butter and you’ll have a bowl of creamy garlic mashed potatoes that are bursting with flavor and calling for holiday gravy!

Yes, you can make these mashed potatoes ahead and reheat them in the oven or microwave when ready to serve.

Can mashed potatoes be reheated?

Mashed potatoes can be reheated in the oven in an oven-safe baking dish. Just top with dabs of additional butter, cover with foil and reheat!

Even easier, just reheat in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave!

How many people will this recipe serve?

Our creamy garlic mashed potatoes makes 6 cups of potatoes. This will serve 12 people at 1/2 cup potatoes per serving.

Prefer a larger amount of mashed potatoes with your meal? Then you can plan on serving 8 people at 3/4 cup potatoes per serving.

Ingredients
  • 3 lbs. Yukon Gold potatoes , peeled and cut in chunks
  • 6 cloves garlic , peeled and rough chopped in large pieces
  • 4 ounces cream cheese , softened
  • 4 Tbs. butter , melted
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
Instructions
  1. Fill pot with potatoes, garlic and enough cold water to cover by 1-inch. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil 20 minutes or until tender. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup of the potato water.
  2. Mash potato mixture with reserved potato water. Add cream cheese, butter, kosher salt and pepper. Continue mashing until smooth and creamy.
  3. Transfer to serving dish and top with additional melted butter, if desired.
Recipe Notes

Makes 6 cups/12 servings. Prefer more that 1/2 cup of mashed poatoes per serving? This recipe will make 8 servings of 3/4 cup per serving.
