How to make pumpkin frosting

- With mixer on medium-high speed beat butter until smooth and creamy.
- Reduce mixer speed to low and gradually add confectioners’ sugar and pumpkin pie spice, beating until blended.
- Add milk and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.

- Be sure that your butter is at room temperature for easy blending
- Measure your confectioners’ sugar correctly and either spoon it into your measuring cups and level with the flat end of a knife of use a food scale and weigh it out
- Don’t scoop your measuring cup into the confectioners’ sugar or you will be packing the sugar into the measuring cup and will have too much sugar for the recipe
- Want more pumpkin flavor? Beat in a tablespoon or two of pumpkin puree! Be careful not to add too much though!
Substitutions
- You can certainly use store bought pumpkin pie spice in place of my homemade pumpkin spice recipe
- You can substitute butter flavored Crisco for half of the butter
- Half and half or heavy cream can always be substituted for the milk. You just might want to add an extra teaspoon or more to get the consistency you want
