A warm chocolate mug cake with bits of fudgy mini chocolate chips throughout microwaves into a divine dessert that’s sure to impress your valentine.

“Bake” up some love for your sweetie this Valentine’s Day in just two minutes with this Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe! Yes, that’s right, two minutes! Our mug cake “bakes” quickly in the microwave so you can make a Valentine dessert for two in just minutes!

How to make a chocolate mug cake

  1. Coat a microwave-safe mug with cooking spray
  2. In your prepared mug, combine half and half, butter, egg yolk and vanilla
  3. Stir in brown sugar, flour, cocoa powder and salt
  4. Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips but do not stir in! Chips will sink into the batter as cake “bakes”.
  5. Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until cake has puffed up Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, if necessary.  
  6. Cool about 1 minute. Cake will sink down as it cools.
  7. Top with hot fudge sauce, whipped topping, sparkles and heart sprinkles.

  • It is important to coat the inside of your mug with cooking spray
  • Add white chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips

Hot Chocolate Mug Cake is a warm, fudgy chocolate cake with bits of melty mini chocolate chips throughout that microwaves into a divine dessert that's guaranteed to impress your special valentine.

Ingredients
  • 3 Tbs. half and half
  • 2 Tbs. butter , melted and cooled
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tbs. all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbs. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbs. mini chocolate chips
Toppings:
  • 1 Tbs. hot fudge topping
  • 1/3 cup whipped topping
  • pink and/or red cake sparkles
  • jumbo hearts sprinkles
Instructions
  1. Spray a 10-ounce or larger microwave-safe mug with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Combine half and half, melted butter, egg yolk and vanilla in prepared mug until blended.
  3. Add brown sugar, flour, cocoa powder and salt and stir until smooth.
  4. Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips. Do not stir chips into batter! Chips will sink down into batter as cake "bakes".
  5. Microwave 2 minutes or until cake is puffed and a toothpick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs. If necessary, continue microwaving in 10-second intervals being sure not to over cook! Let stand 1 minute. Cake will sink down as it stands.
  6. Drizzle with hot fudge sauce and top with whipped topping, cake sparkles and jumbo heart sprinkles.
