Yes, burgers and tacos, so happy together!
So when I saw the latest Tik Tok trend for making a taco burger recipe I knew I had to try it.
Such a fun way to eat your hamburger. Serve it open faced or fold it into a taco shape.
Also known as smash burger tacos, this easy recipe is a fun twist on a taco, or on a burger, depending on how you look at it!
I topped my taco burgers with the Big Mac toppings of shredded lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and, of course, big mac sauce.
You could change things up and top the burgers with your favorite taco toppings, such as shredded lettuce, salsa, pico de gallo, avocado, sour cream and scallions.
Ground turkey or ground chicken can be used in place of ground beef.
Any way you eat it, having Big Mac smash tacos is going to be fun and delicious!

- Preheat oven to 250F.
- Combine ground beef, kosher salt and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Roll into 12 balls.
- Press one beef ball onto one side of each tortilla.
- Preheat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Place tortillas, meat side down, in the skillet and press down and smash with something heavy, such as another skillet. You will have to do this step in batches.
- Cook until the beef is browned, about 3 minutes.
- Turn, top with shredded cheese, and transfer to a baking sheet. Place the tortillas in the oven as they come off of the skillet. This will melt the cheese, finish cooking the beef and keep them warm while you are cooking the remaining tortillas in batches.
- When the cheese is melted, remove the tacos from the oven and top with shredded lettuce, tomatoes and pickles and drizzle with sauce.
- Serve your burger tacos open-faced or fold like a taco and enjoy!
- This recipe makes 4 servings, 3 taco burgers per serving.
Swirls of Flavor Recipe Tips
- Unless you have a large stovetop griddle or large grill pan, you will need to make these ground beef tacos in batches.
- Melting the cheese in the oven also keeps the tacos warm as you continue to make them in batches on the stovetop.
- Flavor the ground beef with taco seasoning
- If you prefer, you don't have to chop the pickle slices and you can just top each taco burger with two dill pickle slices
Substitutions
- You can use ground turkey in place of the ground beef
- Ground chicken is a good substitute for the ground beef
- Substitute your favorite taco toppings for the pickles, tomatoes and big mac sauce
