Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken
Full of flavor and juicy too, this Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken will save you money when you make it at home.
Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken is guaranteed to be your new go-to chicken dinner recipe!
The air fryer makes the chicken juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
Combining a few spices, kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and cayenne, gives the roasting chicken so much flavor.
Olive oil turns these seasonings into a rotisserie chicken rub that you spread on the chicken. It’s as simple as that!
And yes, size does matter! The size of the chicken that you air fry is important.
You will want to use a smaller chicken, between 3 to 4 pounds, so that it fits easily in the air fryer basket.
Prefer to use your oven? The flavors will still taste amazing when you make an oven-roasted chicken too. Scroll down for the oven directions.
So go ahead and make a delicious rotisserie-style chicken tonight and you'll have yourself a winner-winner chicken dinner!
Mashed potatoes and green beans will round out your dinner tonight.

How to make chicken in the air fryer
Scroll down for the full recipe instructions and ingredient amounts in the recipe card below
- Let your air fryer preheat to 375F while preparing the chicken.
- Tie the chicken legs together with kitchen twine and pat the chicken dry.
- Combine kosher salt, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, and cayenne in a small bowl.
- Stir in the olive oil until the mixture is blended and a paste forms. Reserve 1 Tablespoon of the paste.
- Rub or brush the remaining paste over the entire chicken.
- Place chicken, breast side down, in the air fryer basket and cook 25 minutes.
- Carefully turn the chicken so that the breast side is now up. I used two wooden spoons to do this, one inside the cavity and the other to help turn the chicken.
- Spread the reserved seasoning paste over the top of the chicken and cook an additional 25 minutes or until the chicken is done and an instant-read thermometer reads 165F in the thickest part of the chicken.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes before carving.

You can make rotisserie chicken in the oven at home too with these easy oven directions:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Prepare chicken with kitchen twine and spices as directed in the recipe card below.
- Place chicken, breast side down, in a baking pan with a wire rack.
- Cook for 30 minutes, then carefully turn the chicken breast side up, spread the reserved seasoning over the top of the chicken, and cook an additional 30 minutes or until the juices run clear and an instant read thermometer reads 165Fin the thickest part of the chicken.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before carving.
Swirls of Flavor Recipe Tips
- Do not use an equal amount of table salt in place of the kosher salt. It will be way too salty! You need to reduce the amount of salt by at least half if using table salt.
- You start cooking with the chicken breast side down and have to flip the chicken over halfway through the cooking time. I used two wooden spoons to do this, one inside the cavity and the other to help to turn the chicken.
- The size of your chicken is important when cooking it in an air fryer. Select a whole chicken that is 3 to 4 pounds.
- When spreading the remaining paste over the top of the chicken I used a small spatula to help to spread the paste. You can also brush the seasoning but you don’t want to rub this with your hands because, at this point in the recipe, the chicken will be hot.
- A guideline for how long to cook a whole chicken is to cook it for 15-20 minutes per pound.
- Always let your chicken rest for about 5 minutes before slicing so that the juices have time to reabsorb.
Can you freeze rotisserie chicken
Yes, you definitely can freeze a rotisserie chicken.
You can freeze the chicken whole, in pieces or shredded.
