The secret is the brown sugar mixture. Brown sugar adds a scrumptious caramel flavor and cinnamon adds a warm spice.
You can always use regular granulated sugar but the brown sugar really does add a depth of flavor and so much deliciousness.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you will have to air fry the toast in batches. My air fryer could hold two slices at a time without being crowded. A larger air fryer will be able to fit more slices in the basket.

How to make air fryer french toast recipe

- Preheat your air fryer to 375F.
- In a shallow dish, combine eggs, whole milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Whisk together until blended.
- Place the bread slices in the egg mixture, in batches.
- Allow bread to soak for at least 1 minute on each side, turning once.
- Place an air fryer liner, or parchment paper, on the bottom of the air fryer basket.
- Cook the French toast, in batches, Arranging bread slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
- Cook for 6 minutes, turn and cook an additional 4 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm with butter and maple syrup!

- A sturdy firm bread, that is about one day old, will work best in this recipe

Substitutions
- You can use your favorite egg substitute for the eggs
- Your favorite dairy free milk, such as oat milk or almond milk, can be substituted for the whole milk
- Thick slices of brioche bread can be substituted for the rustic bread
- Italian bread can be substituted for the rustic loaf
- Challah bread can also be substituted for the rustic bread
Storage
- Store any leftover french toast in an airtight container in the refrigerator
- You can also wrap the french toast in plastic wrap
- French toast will keep in the refrigerator for about 2-3 days.
