Pumpkin Spice Buttercream Frosting

Everyone loves pumpkin pie spice and now you can have the perfect blend of warm fall spices in a creamy buttery frosting! Pumpkin Spice Buttercream Frosting is an easy homemade buttercream frosting recipe that will be the crowing glory on your next cupcakes, cake, cookies, muffins or even pancakes!

  • With mixer on medium-high speed beat butter until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce mixer speed to low and gradually add confectioners’ sugar and pumpkin pie spice, beating until blended.
  • Add milk and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes, occasionally scraping sides of bowl.

Notes

Makes 4 cups frosting.
Swirls of Flavor Recipe Tips
  • Be sure that your butter is at room temperature for easy blending
  • Measure your confectioners’ sugar correctly and either spoon it into your measuring cups and level with the flat end of a knife of use a food scale and weigh it out
  • Be mindful not to scoop your measuring cup into the confectioners’ sugar or you will be packing the sugar into the measuring cup and will have too much sugar for the recipe
Substitutions
  • You can certainly use store bought pumpkin pie spice in place of my homemade pumpkin spice recipe
  • You can substitute butter flavored Crisco for half of the butter
  • Half and half or heavy cream can always be substituted for the milk. You just might want to add an extra teaspoon or more to get the consistency you want
