Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 Tbs. butter
  • 1 lb. sweet onions , such as Vidalia, sliced, about 3 cups
  • ¼ tsp. dried thyme
  • ¼ cup beef broth or sherry

Caramelized Onions:

  • Melt butter in large non-stick skillet. Cook onions and thyme over medium-low heat until golden, about 45 minutes.
  • Add beef broth and, using a wooden spoon, scrape any brown bits from bottom of the skillet.
  • Cook 1 minute or until mixture is slightly saucy. Reserve.

  • Preheat grill for direct heat grilling.
  • Combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt and cracked black pepper until blended.
  • Shape into four burgers.
  • Grill burgers to desired doneness, topping with cheese and onion during last 2 minutes of grilling time.
  • Transfer to English muffins and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves.
