There’s nothing quite like a juicy burger hot off the grill especially if it’s a juicy burger seasoned with bits of sundried tomatoes and topped with melted fresh mozzarella, sliced tomato, fresh basil leaves and a balsamic drizzle! Fire up the grill! My mouth is watering already! Caprese, the classic Italian salad consisting of fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil, originating from the Isle of Capri, is made to resemble the red, white and green colors of the Italian flag. Take your barbecue to the next level this weekend with Caprese Burgers!
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 cup sundried tomatoes packed in oil, patted dry and chopped
2 Tbs. chopped fresh basil leaves
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 tsp. cracked black pepper
4 slices fresh mozzarella
4 hamburger buns
4 tomato slices
8 large fresh basil leaves
2-3 Tbs. balsamic glaze*
- Preheat grill for direct heat grilling.
- In bowl combine ground beef, sundried tomatoes, chopped basil leaves, garlic powder, kosher salt and cracked black pepper. Shape into 4 patties.
- Grill, turning once and topping with mozzarella during last 2 minutes of grilling time. Grill until cooked through or until meat thermometer reads 165F.
- Serve burgers on buns and top with tomato slices, fresh basil leaves and drizzle of balsamic glaze. Serve with additional balsamic glaze if desired.
*Balsamic glaze is available in most grocery stores. If you cannot find it you can make a simple Balsamic Vinaigrette concentrate to use as the drizzle. Just combine 2 Tbs. olive oil, 2 Tbs. balsamic vinegar, 2 tsp. Dijon mustard and 1/2 tsp. sugar until blended and serve with your burgers!
